Viz Media’s Manga App for iPhone/iPod Touch: Current Titles Available
I’m currently trying out VIZ Manga for iPhone & iPod Touch (it’s free, but you buy each title) this morning. Death Note, Naurto and Bleach are some of the ‘premiere’ titles, but there are quite a few other great ones.
The store is really easy-to-use and it has some pretty nice titles at launch and I like how you can get several volume one titles for free. The iPhone/iPod Touch screen real estate doesn’t really allow for the BEST manga-reading experience (it’s small), but for satisfying your need for manga-on-the-go, it does a good job.
Here are the titles available right now:
- Absolute Boyfriend
- Bakuman
- Black Bird
- BLEACH
- Blue Exorcist
- Captive Hearts
- Claymore
- D.Gray-Man
- Death Note
- DragonBall
- DragonBall Z
- Fairy Cube
- Kekkaishi
- MeruPuri
- NARUTO
- Natsume’s Book of Friends
- Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan
- One Piece
- Otomen
- Oran High School Host Club
- Rosario + Vampire
- Rurouni Kenshin
- Torkio
- Vampire Knight
- not simple

R.I.P. US Manga Industry, April 15, 2011
I’m going to just flat-out say it: the manga industry in the United States/North America just died. What were it’s last words, you may ask? Here you go:
Fourteen years later, I’m laying down my guns. Together, our community has fought the good fight, and, as a result, the Manga Revolution has been won –manga has become a ubiquitous part of global pop culture. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished – and the incredible group of passionate fans we’ve served along the way (my fellow revolutionaries!).
- Stu Levy, the founder of TOKYOPOP, which is shutting it’s doors on May 31st, 2011.
There’s like, totally so much to say about this, but for now, I have a tombstone to chisel…
Yes, Neo-Tokyo indeed is about to explode: Tyler Stout’s AKIRA Poster
Even better than his Star Wars posters, more awesome than his Kill Bill art…the ultra-limited edition MONDO print of Tyler Stout’s AKIRA!
Oh, and it’s not-for-sale to us mere mortals. ARRRGGGHHH!
There are, however, several copies going for hundreds of dollars on eBay.
So we watched the awesome Summer Wars last night…
Ok, so we finally had some time to catch Summer Wars, and it was awesome. I’m working up a review, but I think it’s going to need another viewing on the big tv since we watched it on my MacBook Pro:
Live Action Akira Update: Tetsuo to be played by either Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield or James McAvoy? Kaneda could be Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake or Joaquin Phoenix?
According to Deadline, live action Akira will have an August start. Even more interesting is the short list of actors being considered for the roles of Tetsuo and Kaneda. So here’s the part that will either strike fear in your heart, melt your brain or make you squeal with joy, depending on your preference:
There are two major roles, and I’m told that for Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script. For the role of Kaneda, the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. The two leads are expected to come from that group of actors.
Who are you rooting for?
